In the course of the events and socio political shifts, the remarks on the art as an experience and knowledge of a human pathway, open the conscience to a new concept of the real, of its value, where the research, awareness, loveliness push the subject, model the language on the art and around the society. In such a sense I think it’s important the first edition of the International Festival of Art History that it is presented by the Ministre de la Culture et de la Communication, l’Institute National de l’Histoire de l’Art and the Castle of Fontainebleau. It will take place from May 27 to 29, 2011 at Fontainebleau Castle.

The festival of art history deals with the madness, which is the main theme to reread the past with the contemporaneity. The section La Folie: artistes, création et beauté insensée contains two other sections of conferences, meetings and open forums : the first is * art et folie. L’art, une folie? La folie, un art? and the second ** Art Hors Normes, Excentricité, Extravagance, Demesure.

The Festival opens the first edition paying homage to Italy, guest of honour for having had a leading role into the birth of the art history. « The Madness » is the theme to be celebrated in occasion of  the 500th anniversary of the first publication of « In praise of madness » by Desiderius Erasmus (known as Erasmo da Rotterdam or Erasmus von Rotterdam) who started to write his works in Italy.

The Festival will arrange meetings, discussions, performances, conferences involving the Castle-Museum, the town, the city Theatre and the Ermitage’s hall for three days. It is organized as per three permanent meetings: Forum about art history; Book and magazine art show; Art & Camera.

The forum about the Art History will be open with ***Apologie pour l’histoire de l’art by Mr. Eric de Chaussey, Academy of France’s director in Rome and it will be the occasion to be informed of current topics, discoveries, restorations, the latest technologies. Art & Camera propose a film Festival of art with nearly 55 films on, around three themes : Art and creation, the madness, the Italian films about art; they are the basic designs of the Festival. The book show will be an overview of the French and foreign publishing. There will be the**** Université de Printemps, with a full programme of Studies – art, architecture, applied arts, technologies, restorations and  the light in the art. The *****Ateliers Pédagogiques are dedicated to the art teaching and to make sensitive to the lofty language.

Festival de l’histoire de l’art Fontainebleau
